Typical of the revolutionary war or colonial period, a favorite of soldiers and civilians. Brown wool felt hat cocked and trimmed in brown or black. Hand finished by our milliner.  Finished with an adjustable cotton liner inside.  This hat is a little lighter than our Heavy Wool Felt Hats. Specify black or brown trim. Hat body and trim color may vary. Maximum hat size 7-3/4". We highly recommend storing your hats with a hat stretcher (HS-2920).

Just what I ordered

Great but watch the sizes.

I bought this for those rare times I need a civilian kit. The hat is solid well made and eye catching. The one issue i have is be careful of size. I wear hats normally so know my usual size. In Stetson or Magill I'm a 61 or 7 5/8th's depending on the scale. In this I got the 7 3/4 and it was a perfect fit so aim high on your size.

Good enough for first impressions

When I first opened it I was happy with what I saw. It looked sharp, felt like a somewhat thick and stiff wool. But looking at it for more than a few seconds I started to notice issues. First there is no symmetry to the folds, the front pinch is a little sharp, the left side looks OK, the right side is just a large scoop. Then the I noticed the ties, some are crooked others are lopsided. In most of the folds the wool is crinkled.
Upon putting the hat on it fit a little large but being hand made I do not expect perfection. However it is fairly oval shaped leaving fairly significant gaps on the side of the head.
I did note that the stitching at the back of the hat between the bowl and brim, it does appear the sewing machine had an issue. Not sure if the way the folds were done was to cover for this error.
Better than a costume but not a high quality reproduction.
