Excellent Shoe

These shoes exceeded all my expectations. They are top notch quality, and will last for a long time if properly cared for. The additional instruction that Townsends provided for the buckle installation on both paper and their YouTube channel was very helpful for ensuring I got it right the first time. The first pair I received were a bit snug, and Townsends were an absolute pleasure to work with, and made the exchange for a larger size effortless and fast. These shoes are worth the investment for a quality product backed by excellent customer service.

Very nice, but...

I was a bit hesitant to order a straight last shoe, assuming that I would not get a very precise fit. That turned out to not be the case, and these fit far better than a pair of normal lasted buckle shoes that I have from another manufacturer. They not only fit better (with good toe room), they look better too! Overall, construction seems very solid. I wore them the first time this weekend (all day long, for two days) and they were very comfortable.

I'd like to give them a five star review, but for one thing! The canvas inner liner which covers the inside forefoot up to the tongue is not well executed. The fabric edges are not bound, surged or stabilized, simply stitched to the leather. As a result, after just two days wear they are coming unraveled, and at one place tearing away from the shoe body. I had to glue down one section, and have used 'Fray Check' on the rest of the edges to try to arrest the unraveling. Seems odd that this oversight would exist on an otherwise well designed product. Not sure what I will do if the unraveling persists. This could be a problem, since I only wear these shoe for a particular event once a year. If additional unraveling occurs next year, Townsend may not want to cover it!

Great product though it’ll take a while to break them in.

Superb Footwear!

These shoes are well made, look great, and are actually incredibly comfortable! I wore them for two days and nights straight, wearing no other shoes the entire time, and they felt great (I did use lambskin inserts)! I have even worn these for English country dancing and swing dancing, without blisters! After wearing non-period dress shoes with gaiters while my feet were still growing, then going to period riding boots for the last year, I finally decided to buy these shoes! The quality is superb, and they look so good with my British officer uniform, have received many compliments from reenactors and guests as well!

Terrific Shoes!

Wow. Thank you Townsend Family. These shoes are wonderful! So comfortable, beautiful supple leather and the size and fit are perfect. I was a little intimidated to add the buckles but if you watch the video a few times, you'll get confident, and it really is easy. I did the second shoe in no time and didn't need to watch the video. I used an awl to add the holes as I didn't have the fancy tool the gentleman used in the video. The awl worked great. I'm very eager to wear these shoes now that they are put together. I sail and I bought these to wear with my vintage sailor pants and striped shirt to give me an 1800's look while on board my boat and/or at the club. So fun! I have been wearing these all day today and they are so comfortable. Don't delay! Get a pair now for all your Colonial needs and fashions. You will love them! Thanks Townsends!
