Wonderful basket that adds much verisimilitude

We've had this basket for a few years now. It's surprisingly comfortable to wear, though if you have a lot of weight and are carrying for a long time, you will want to add some sheepskin padding or folded pads to your shoulders to relieve some of the pressure.

It arrives a bright pale color but ages to a nice mellow shade with use. The canvas straps are fine for Revolutionary times and forward, but are anachronistic for earlier times. The pattern for the harness is simple enough that you can replace it with tab woven bands or leather straps for medieval/Viking reenactments. We chose to darken them with a bit of soil and some tea; worked effectively to age them so the straps didn't stand out so much. Warning, the harness can slip off the frame when storing; it can be remarkably tricky to reset. Take photos for reference.

This can hold a lot of material such as potatoes, apples, leafy greens, carrots, onions, etc, although you need to be careful when leaning over or you will dump things out! I have used it to carry blankets and clothing as well as for carrying costuming extras during Renn faires and at LARPing events. At home, I use it for holding my knitting.

I appreciate the flat bottom and the ribs on the bottom, which protect the basket and help to keep it from tipping over when set down. I also love the leather grab handle at the top of the bag. If you are foraging (mushrooms or ramps, anyone?), you can use the strap to side carry the bag quite easily.

Beautiful!

I was hoping this basket would be the right size to be carry on luggage, and it looks like it’ll be perfect. The basket is well-made and feels sturdy, the straps are nice and wide. (My only complaint is the quality and appearance of the buckles; they feel a little cheap and don’t really look as historically accurate as I’d hoped. I’ll probably remove or replace them before using the basket at interpretive events.) Overall I’m thrilled with it, and looking forward to carrying all my gear for a weekend event in this beauty!
