Iron Salamander SM-279

Availability: In stock

Salamanders were very common implements in Colonial and European hearth cooking. While it can be used as a peel to set and remove items in and out of the oven, its heavy 3-16 inch-thick paddle was designed to be heated over the fire until very hot and then used to brown the tops of various foods. The 24 inches long Salamander with its ramshorn finial is a reproduction of period examples. The paddle is 5” in diameter. Handforged by our blacksmith here in the U.S.A.
